Wow. Just wow. Better than episode of Dateline. Drives home the hard truth about some of the people who now hold a measure of power. Thanks so much for sharing that story, Ryan. Looking forward to your commentary on the current political climate. Much success with your new endeavor!

Great article! Just another example of how fraudulent litigators tied to the Trump regime are as incompetent as they are corrupt.

What a riveting read. I have been waiting for the Super’s next move on Sullivan. I am glad for your sake that your case is closed and will not be the lab mouse.

felt like I needed a shower after reading your Telus post. How many more people in the the Trump Universe are those kinds of failed Human Beings.

Man.....these are not good people. I wonder how they feel about tearing down the system that enabled them to have good childhoods and opportunities as adults (i.e. - rule of law/ethics in government, a sense of civic community etd)?

The 🍊is always screaming that he’s been persecuted via lawfare, bc he’s projecting! His cronies have been using lawfare to torment people esp the press for years🤬 This piece lays out pertinent evidence of such in all its gory glory. Congrats on prevailing in your case, dude! 💪

Mazol Tov! You fought the good fight and supported truth, not their narrative…and in the end, look who retreated. Good for you.

Investigative reporting! Finally.

Ever since your conversation with Steve Schmidt, I've been looking forward to reading the piece you teased for Tuesday. Your inside story of being the target of a lawfare campaign against the press was much more impactful than news reports about similar frivolous lawsuits Trump habitually brings to punish the press, the media, and anyone who displeases him. You hoped your long form magazine-type article would work on Substack. You expressed the same concern during your conversation with Jennifer Rubin. But I have some different advice for you.

I say it absolutely works here, especially considering your reason for leaving Politico -- freedom from censorship. Of course, that works only as long as everyone who uses this platform maintains a standard of honesty and dedication to fact-based reporting. Uncensored mis- and disinformation will ruin it for everyone. But there is another concern as well; it's not just that no one will tell you that you can't.

I have been a faithful reader of Heather Cox Richardson's letters for more than a year, but independent journalism is fairly new to me here. It was an exciting discovery that started with The Contrarian and expanded very quickly to a number of individuals and organizations I already respected. That grew to include people they interviewed, like you. Perhaps you can see the concern.

There are only so many hours in a day. When several writers post worthwhile pieces several times a day, it doesn't take long to develop a backlog of reading, watching, or listening that is impossible to overcome. I've learned to be practical enough about it to begin to recognize what I can ignore. It isn't enough that we can express opinions in language corporate media can't use.

Many -- if not most -- of the writers here offer unfiltered commentary on news they've read or seen in publications like the NYT or networks like MSNBC. Some excel at interviews with well-informed, eloquent people. But I want to see more unfiltered investigative journalism. I know it takes time and is costly, but a long form piece every now and then with shorter pieces once a day or once a week might be a manageable, successful schedule. I would watch for your name in my email notifications.

Maybe to start, what could you tell us about the whistle blower's claim that Elon Musk's crew has sucked up highly sensitive information about NLRB and sent it directly through StarLink to Russia? There have been some hearings, but what isn't the NYT telling us about that? Or the possibility that DOGE is putting the whole of government on the blockchain and making the payment system totally crypto? Zev Shalev says we have only 80 days to put a stop to it.

I'm glad you're here.

Ryan I listened to your discussion with Jen Rubin about this article. My compliments on explaining your experience with the litigation and the behavior of Biss and others. Yes it is a long form piece but it is well worth the effort. I never write comments on articles nor do I offer opinions. This note is to encourage you to keep up the great work and not to worry about article length. Complicated stories take time and effort.

I confess I did not manage to get through this story in one sitting - but every time I saw something else from you after that, or saw you on another Substacker’s video, I reminded myself I still had to finish it! (Part of my problem is the one another commenter identified - so many great Substacks, so little time!). Finally got back to your story tonight. Great piece. Would love to see more in that vein.

Loved this and I would be even more depressed than I already am if this was "too long" for most people to read. If that's the case, it's no wonder we're in the spot we're in. Yes, we're all busy, but not everything can be meaningfully discussed in a TikTok video or tweet. The article gives another peek at the lowlifes that this movement relies on because they are incapable of being embarrassed, apparently the only requirement for participation.
