Fascinating discussion. Hair raising, but it sure looks like the good ol' US is falling apart. I live in Paris so am not as affected as others, but Europe is already preparing for the post-US century.
Fascinating conversation…I see Walsh on my Substack feed regularly but had never heard him speak. The explanation of the transformation of the Tea Party to its philosophical opposite MAGA was enlightening and makes sense; social science research that has been covered in publications such as The Atlantic has shown that a sizable number of Americans crave an ordered authoritarian world, and many if not most are aligned with evangelical churches, who are now mostly aligned with the white supremacist Christian Nationalist movement pushed by Kirk, Mike Johnson, Russ Vought and many others in T’s administration. The people calling for civil war are the bored masses that Hannah Arendt described in her seminal work on Nazi Germany, The Origins of Totalitarianism. It was a slog getting through that tome, but certainly helped me understand the root causes of our current political situation. I look toward to your future conversations with Joe Walsh!
