This discussion makes me think about income inequality in the United States, what that distribution has looked like for a very long time, if not since the formation of the US, and that now that distribution is starting to change with increased education and opportunity for those who have not been in power for the last 250 or 275 years, that those who have been at the top of the power structure realize they no longer have direct claim to that authority. These are the beginning paroxysms of the dawning recognition of the general populace who have more time to attend to thoughts now that their basic needs have been met (Maslow), while they ask about where we should, we should, go from here. The question is now fully in the fore and will require a new path forward in the US. Looking to the past and authoritarianism as a balm for our present ills will not yield a sufficient path forward. A larger more inclusive answer is required.
